In his mind, he was able to separate the evil Pupkin from the average puppet which didn't do anything weird. ![]() He basically followed what he thought were his mother's wishes. It made sense to me! He no longer seemed to care much for puppets after his trauma, but he loved his mother so much he was willing to hold a service full of puppets. Even when they are together they are too much in their heads, instead of interacting with one another. There were scenes that went on for chapters upon chapters. Herself a writer, Lucy pieces together memories of her coming-of-age amidst an exceedingly difficult childhood. The slender first-person novel, My Name is Lucy Barton (it is under 200 pages), is the account of titular character Lucy Barton. There is a fourth Lucy Barton book, Anything Is Possible (2017), that I have not yet read. I recently read Strout’s Lucy Barton novels, which begin with My Name is Lucy Barton (2016) and includes Oh William! (2021) and Lucy By The Sea (2022) a subtle bluntness mixed with Strout’s masterful use of voice in each novel create a compelling mirror of our time, our society, our individual struggles. There is unquestionably a magic at work here. Something in her sparse writing makes readers feel seen their life experience, or the life experience of those they have loved looms large, mirrored through her written word. Since the publication of her 2009 Pulitzer-Prize-winning Olive Kitteridge (or for some even before then), readers have recognized the understated brilliance of American novelist Elizabeth Strout. ![]() ![]() ![]() Max already expects some of the raucous behavior of his new, American friends-like their insatiable hunger for the fried and cheesy, and their locker room talk about girls. ![]() Taken in by the football team, he learns how to catch a spiraling ball, how to point a gun, and how to hide his innermost secrets. This book is for everyone out there that loves to say just one more chapter, and then before you know it you’ve finished the whole book. The storyline was addictive, the characters lept from the pages and she created a world I never wanted to leave. Just from that first chapter I was hooked and I screamed out loud best chapter ever! Oh my gosh you guys, Annette Marie knows how to pull you in and continually have you begging for more. Taming Demons for Beginners was a ton of fun, action packed and impossible to put down.
